Apartment 528 began as A Day in the Life of Design Girl,  a blog for me to share the various DIY and decorating projects of my first Boston apartment with my family that was back home in the midwest. But it turned out there were other renters reading the blog and looking for ways to live stylishly without breaking the bank or losing their security deposit. Wanting to step up my game for my new audience, I change the name of the blog to something more recognizable and meaningful - A Day in the Life... became Apartment 528, dedicated to my amazingly gifted designer mother who's birthday is May 28th.  I don't know where I'd be if she hadn't dragged me to hardware and fabric stores as a kid or let me help her create beautiful things out of nothing.

But years of writing about my design loves got me thinking...wouldn't it be great if all my favorite things were in one place?  So two years later, Apt528 expanded to include the Apartment 528 store, a place where renters (and owners!) could shop awesome handmade housewares from talented indie designers and snag vintage pieces collected from my travels throughout the Massachusetts.

It's been two years since Apt528 opened and a few things have changed. First we moved from Boston to Chicago in 2010. We also added vintage furniture to our ever expanding inventory. And as of January 2012, we have a new studio where you can come shop us in person. But the important things never changed...we're still here peddling our quirky, colorful wares at can't-live-without-it prices. We're on a mission to save boring apartments everywhere!

Because everyone deserves good design...
